Now I want to make all the coats!! I have been planning Butterick 4610 for a while, and already have the fabric. A toile has been made, but I need to do some fitting alterations.
I also want to use Vogue 8346 to try and recreate this gorgeous coat I found ages ago on Pinterest, which I sadly can't find a source for.
I was thinking of maybe using Melton wool for it, but Lara from Dreaming Avonlea recently made this gorgeous coat in Loden, so I'm thinking of using it instead.
And a few weeks ago I spotted this 1960s coat on Instagram, which is right up my street. It turned out that it's from The Great British Sewing Bee: Sew Your Own Wardbook book, which I promptly ordered on ebay. I think this would be lovely in dark purple or burgurdy.
But coat-making is pretty epic, and at the minute I'm all about the simple sewing, so it's pyjama bottoms for me!
Have a great weekend,
Lynne
It looks awesome Lynne. Well worth all your hard work. The colour and shape are beautiful on you. The dress you're wearing underneath is lovely too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The dress is yet unblogged, but I will blog about it soon. I forgot to mention that in my post.
DeleteReally beautiful, love the details like the elbow darts, and the great buttons. I'm going to start simply with coats, one that's unlined with no buttons!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I say dive right in with coat making! What's the worst that can happen?! That was kind of my motto when I was making this.
DeleteWhat an amazing job, well done! Those bound buttonholes look perfect, and the elbow darts are such a lovely vintage touch. I love that 60's coat too, I'll have to dig out my GBSB book and have a look!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm really pleased with how the buttonholes turned out, they are much better than the patch method. The 60s coat has definately got under my skin, but I think I'd make a few changes to it.
DeleteThis is beautiful I'm also tempted to make the gbsb coat!

Thank you! Isn't the 1960s coat a beauty?! I noticed that it has a waist seam, but I think I would do away with it. I had a look at the pattern, and the bodice and skirt waist edges both seem to be straight, so it would just be a case of overlapping the seam allowance to make them one piece. Also, it hard to tell from the photos in the book, but there doesn't seem to be any shaping in the back, so I think I would add some princess seams too.
DeleteDid you know you can search images on Google to find their source? It looks like that coat is from Topshop, released in 2008 and there are still a few available on Ebay. https://www.thehunt.com/finds/DooYzR-topshop-navy-fit---flare-skirted-princess-riding-bandstand-wool-coat-10-38-us6
ReplyDeleteThank you for this! I did know about image searches, but still don't know how to do them!
DeleteOh Lynne what a beauty! Your coat is insanely beautiful. I can't stop looking at it. Full of admiration!!! It's lovely to read your construction post too, and very inspiring. I am dying to make myself a coat but it will have to wait till after baby is born now, my dimensions are changing far too rapidly and unpredictably to make one now! Congratulations on making a truly awesome coat. I'll bet it makes you smile every time you wear it xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Marie!! I am insanely proud of it. Good luck with your coat when you get to make it.
DeleteYour coat is gorgeous Lynne. All the hard work was totally worth it. Beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Manju! I forgot to mention that I copied the shoulder pads from your post on your Butterick blazer.
DeleteSuperb! Truly an elegant and gorgeous coat Lynne.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ruth!
DeleteWOW! That is so you. Wonderful job. Can't wait to see the 1960s either!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I want to make that 60s coat right now!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful Lynne, the colour is gorgeous on you. X
ReplyDeleteThank you Shirley! Isn't the colour brilliant?! I'm calling it Kermit The Frog green :)
DeleteSo good! Love the shape and little details. I have my eye on Vogue 8346 (short version) in heavy cotton for subtropical winter. I procrastinated through last winter, so must do it this time!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've seen a few short versions of V8346 on the interwebs, and they are lovely. Good luck with yours.
DeleteStunning coat Lynne, you've done an incredible job! Love the style and the colour on you too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm calling it the Kermit Coat because of the colour!
DeleteIt's a gorgeous coat Lynne - I really enjoyed reading about the details and then looking at the pictures in this post. It was well worth all the effort you put into it, but I can understand why you want to sew pyjama bottoms now!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ruth! The pyjama bottoms are done, along with two jersey tops, and they took less than half the time of the coat!
DeleteWow Lynne this looks really impressive! It also looks super professional and expensive (good fabric choice)! I love the Pinterest-sourced coat - looks very Vivienne Westwood :) x
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hadn't thought of that coat looking Viv-ish, but it does now that you say it!
DeleteOh wow! This is lovely, and the perfect color! Great job!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am still absolutely loving the colour!
DeleteCongratulations, it's stunning!
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen!
