Hello all! I have so much to talk about today - there's a new dress, a giveaway win, and a Sew Dolly Clackett win! Eep! So let's start at the start...
The new dress is my second version of Deer and Doe's Belladone dress. I love my first version and wear it a lot, even if the bias tape facing is a bit dodgy. I got this fabric from Fancy Moon, it's called Guinea Flower Green by Kaffe Fassett, and was £13.00 per metre. I bought 2.5 metres which was just enough, and I made absolutely no attempt at pattern matching because I didn't think this print needed it.
The green bits are brighter than they appeared on the website, but I love it. Then when I added the brown bias tape, I thought it made the dress look very 70s, which is right up my street. Although I appreciate 70s isn't to everybodys' taste!
I made one mod from the first version, which was to take 1cm out of the back shoulder pieces and back bodice pieces using this tutorial. It was really easy, and definately makes the back sit better.
I mentioned that on my first version I had trouble following the instructions for the invisible bias tape facing. Well, I didn't fare much better with the visible bias tape instructions! A classic case of me over-thinking, because I'm very good at that!
What I should have done was to fold the tape in half long-ways and put it over the edge of the fabric - half on the wrong side, half on the right side and sew it on: job done. Instead, I treated it like it was a facing, but on the outside. Then to top it off, I ran out of dark brown bobbin thread 2 inches from the end of sewing in the neck tape! Grrr... Anyway, I'm pleased with how it turned out, because I think the thick bias tape adds to the 70s-ness.
I have a third Belladone planned, and will be doing the bias tape as above. And wait till you see the fabric - it's fabulous!
Then on Tuesday morning, while I was having my breakfast, I was faffing about on Ravelry, and got a message from the lovely Helen at The Woolly Adventures of a Knitting Kitty, to say I'd won a giveaway she was doing. Have a look at what I won!
It's a crochet covered tape measure (and chocolate, mmm...), it's it great? It was crocheted by Helen herself, and she's even written a tutorial on how to make them. I've already got some retractable tape measures from ebay to give this a go, I think they'd make great gifts. Helen's blog is one of the very first (if not the first) blog I started following. If you're a knitter, I can recommend it; and if you would like to knit, it's perfect inspiration. Also, Helen is a cat person - enough said.
And finally, and quite unbelievably, I was one of the Sew Dolly Clackett winners! I entered three dresses (one, two and three), and it was the third one, the Lucky Elisalex, that won (it was lucky indeed!). I love this dress, I've worn it three times already, and it's had lots of lovely comments.
I found out about this on Tuesday too - it was a pretty good day for me! I had just got into work, was feeling pleased with myself for winning Helen's giveaway, and did what I always do when I get into work - make a cup of tea (can't start work without it!). Here's what happened - I was waiting for the kettle to boil, Rock and Roll All Nite by Kiss was on the radio, I looking at bloglovin' on my phone, and saw Roisin's post annoucing the winners. You could have knocked me down with a feather when I saw myself at the bottom! If you haven't already seen the other winning dresses, please take a look , they're all gorgeous and I would definately have picked them as winners. In fact, all the dresses that were entered were lovely, and I don't envy the judges at having to choose! And my prize is some fabric picked by Roisin's own fair hands!
Here's the video for Rock and Roll All Nite, because now it's going around my head. This song is so great! Be warned, if you haven't heard it before, it's extremely catchy, and you will be singing the chorus for the next two hours! It's worth it though just to see Paul Stanley's boots...
This has been said a million times, but crafters really are the nicest people, and I am so proud to be one of them. So, I am going to host my own giveaway shortly, because this week I also reached over 250 followers! Hello to all my new followers, and thank you for reading my blog. This week have left me feeling pretty much like this!
